Special Consensus, formed in Chicago in 1975 by banjo player Greg Cahill and friends, is a bluegrass band that has achieved a contemporary bluegrass sound in their five decades of performing. The first band recording was released in 1979 and the band created the Traditional American Music (TAM) Program in 1984 to present in schools and community centers.
